Personnel and Bios

UNR Group Dr. Peter Sebaaly Dr. Elie Hajj Mr. Haissam Sebaaly

The research team of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is led by Professor Peter E. Sebaaly from the Department of Civil and Env. Engineering. The UNR team also includes Drs. Elie Hajj, Raj Siddharthan, and George Fernandez, Mr. Haissam Sebaaly and several graduate students. In addition to the UNR personnel, the UNR team includes Drs. Claine Petersen, Charles Glover, Adam Hand, and Jon Epps as consultants. The UNR team has extensive experience in the areas of fundamental and applied research, outreach, technology transfer and training activities.  The UNR team has been conducting research in the areas of moisture damage, rutting, and thermal cracking of HMA mixtures for over twenty-five years.  Additionally, the UNR team has strong knowledge in the mechanical modeling of flexible pavements and the development of mechanistic pavement design procedures for new and rehabilitated pavements.

Peter Sebaaly, Ph.D., P.E.

Peter SebaalyDr. Sebaaly is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the Western Regional Superpave Center (WRSC) at the University of Nevada-Reno.  Dr. Sebaaly has over twenty years of experience in the area of pavement design and materials, and vehicle pavement interaction.  Dr. Sebaaly focuses on laboratory and field evaluation of modified asphalt binders and asphalt mixtures, water sensitivity of asphalt mixtures, pavement instrumentation, pavement performance studies, and rehabilitation and maintenance design procedures.

Elie Y. Hajj, Ph.D.

Elie Y. HajjDr. Hajj is a Research Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Nevada-Reno.  Dr. Hajj is currently working on several research projects on asphalt mixtures characterization, pavement performance evaluation, and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), etc.  He has several years of experience in laboratory testing and state-of the-art laboratory equipments.

Raj V. Siddharthan, Ph.D., P.E.

Raj V. SiddharthanDr. Siddharthan is a Professor of Civil Engineering at University of Nevada. His field of study is geotechnical engineering specializing in the mechanical modeling and responses of multilayered structures such as HMA pavements to both environmental stresses and dynamic loading.

George Fernandez, Ph.D.

George FernandezDr. Fernandez is the Director of the Center for Research Design and Analysis (CRDA) and a Professor of Applied Statistics & State Specialist (Statistics).  Dr. Fernandez expertise lies in linear and non-linear regression modeling in road pavement performance analysis and network optimization models, and application of full and partial factorial designs in Asphalt performance evaluation in Civil engineering.

Haissam Sebaaly

Haissam SebaalyMr. Sebaaly is a Research Scientist at the University of Nevada. For the past several years he has worked on the evaluation of HMA mixtures’ resistance to fatigue, rutting, and thermal cracking.
