Personnel and Bios

Senior members of AAT’s staff will participate in the Asphalt Research Consortium.  Dr. Ramon Bonaquist, P.E., will coordinate AAT’s activities. Dr. Donald Christensen, P.E. will lead several of AAT’s tasks.  Laboratory work at AAT will be under the direction of Mr. Donald Jack.


Ramon Bonaquist, Ph.D., P.E.

Ramon BonaquistDr. Bonaquist has over 22 years of research and practical experience in asphalt materials and flexible pavement engineering.   He has been AAT’s Chief Operating Officer since 1997, developing AAT into one of the country’s leading asphalt materials consulting firms.  In this capacity he serves as Chief Engineer and also leads AAT’s strategic business planning and development.  Since joining AAT he served as Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, or Program Manager on several projects including National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 9-29, Simple Performance Tester for Superpave Mix Design, NCHRP 9-36, Improved Procedure for Laboratory Aging of Asphalt Binders in Pavements, NCHRP 9-30A, Calibration of Rutting Models for HMA Structural and Mix Design, NCHRP 9-43, Mix Design Practices for Warm Mix Asphalt, and NCHRP 9-44, Developing a Plan for Validating an Endurance Limit for HMA Pavements.


Donald Christensen, Ph.D., P.E.

Donald ChristensenDr. Christensen has over 24 years of experience in construction materials engineering and research, most of which has involved bituminous materials research.  He has been a Senior Engineer at AAT since 2001.  Since joining AAT he has served as Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, or Program Manager on several projects including: NCHRP Project 9-25, Requirements for Voids in Mineral Aggregate for Superpave Mixtures, NCHRP Project 9-31, Air Void Requirements for Superpave Mix Design, and NCHRP Project 9-33, A Mix Design Manual for Hot Mix Asphalt, NCHRP Project 1-42, Top-Down Fatigue Cracking of Hot-Mix Asphalt Layers, Airfield Asphalt Pavement Technology Program (AAPTP) Project 04-02, PG Binder Grade Selection for Airfield Pavements, AAPTP Project 05-03, Effect of Deicing Chemicals on HMA Airfield Pavements, and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Contract #04-01 (C09), SMA Specification and Implementation.


Donald Jack

Donald JackMr. Donald Jack has worked for AAT for over 11 years and has been Laboratory Manager since 2001.  Mr. Jack has over 21 years of experience in asphalt mixture design and laboratory testing of asphalt materials from a variety of sources including the Federal Highway Administration, the Asphalt Institute, the Pennsylvania Transportation Institute, and Advanced Asphalt Technologies. He currently holds a Level 4 certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) in asphalt and is a Certified Superpave Technician in Virginia.  Both of these are the highest level of certification available from the respective agency.
